The Larry Silver Childhood Cancer Campaign Fund

Since inception in June 2007 The Fund has responded to about 15 grant requests. We have awarded approximately $7000 in financial assistance to families in distress due to the costs associated with their child's treatment for leukemia and other types of childhood cancer. Most of the families we have helped have come to us through the social workers at Children's Hospital whose job it is to find help for families in need.

Our Fund has been able to plug gaps in available resources to these families. In many cases we have helped single parents who have had to quit a job or take unpaid leave in order to be with their child while they fight their disease. We have made grants to pay water and utility bills before service was shut off. We paid the airfare a young man couldn't afford so he could get to Houston for stem cell transplant treatment. We have made late rent payments and even paid to repair the fuel pump on a 1994 Chrysler so mom could continue to drive her son from Greeley for treatment. On Christmas Eve we paid the the nights lodging for all 31 families at the Ronald McDonald House. I think we are making a difference.

All the funds we raise come to us through the Larry Silver Memorial Golf Tournament and individual donations made on this website. If you would like to help us and are not a golfer, please use the "DONATE" button and make a donation by credit card through PayPal. All funds raised are administered through the Westminster Optimist Club, a non-profit service organization. Although the Optimist Club is a recognized non-profit, it is not a 501(c)3 charitable organization and your donation is not tax deductible. If you would like to know more about the Optimist Club use the link on the Home Page.

Thank you for visiting our website and if you know of a family in need due to a child's cancer treatment, please refer them to the Home Page of this website where they can download an application for assistance. Thank you again for helping us make a small difference in the world.
