About Larry
Those of you that knew Larry Silver, know that he was a man of honesty, integrity, and great passion for the people and things he loved. One of those things was the game of golf. It allowed him to spend time with the people he enjoyed and play the game that he was infatuated with. Larry was truly happy out on the course, breathing the fresh air, enjoying the endless views, and impressing his fellow golfers with his length off the tee box. If you had the opportunity to play with Larry, as I did many times, you could see just how at home he was on the golf course.
He was also a diligent student of the game and a capable teacher as well. In fact, I remember visiting him in the hospital and he had struck up a conversation with one of the nurses about the difficulties of putting. By the time I left he'd taught the nurse about keeping his eyes directly over the ball, letting his arms swing like a pendulum, and convinced him to bring his putter to the hospital the following day for some live, in-room putting practice. That's Larry, he could talk to anybody about nearly anything and conversation was always comfortable. He really was a great man and I couldn't have been more fortunate and proud to call him my Dad.
The Larry Silver Memorial Tournament is to help us all remember the great times we shared, not only with Larry, but with all of our loved ones that may have passed before their time. It's for their memory and for the joy they brought the world and all of us that knew them. The tournament is also to give back, to help the less fortunate, and create a positive, generous fund that will perpetuate optimism in our community. --- Ben Silver
